Wood shavings are a by product of this industry. Wood shavings are created when a lumber mill planes rough wood into smooth wood. The shavings are then sucked off from the planer and collected for bagging.

The availability of wood shavings is determined by two factors: the demand for shavings in the market place and the demands for lumber in the market place (the amount of lumber being planed). As a supplier, it is important that we don’t rely on a single source for wood shavings. That is why RB Tripp Ltd. has agreements with many different lumber mills to supply shavings. By forming long term relationships with each mill, we are able to work with them to ensure a consistent and high quality wood shaving.

The market place for shavings has a higher demand for shavings in the winter months (horses are stabled) and a lower demand in the summer months (horse are pastured). During the winter months, advanced lead time in ordering is required due to the demand.

All of our production facilities use Verville baggers, which are well known world wide for their high quality and reliability. As lumber is planed, the shavings are pulled from the planer and into a large hopper. This then feeds into the bagging machine where the shavings are filled, compressed and sealed in either paper or plastic bags. It is important to note that the lumber is kiln dried prior to planing, which ensures that the shavings have a nice, soft dry flake.
